Calvin uses majordomo software, which is the same software we run two
lists here at Dordt. They have decided to not restrict posting to
folks who have signed up on the list. They could do that - we do on
Christian geology and biology lists that I help run here at Dordt. The
down side is that messages like this and anyone who sends a message with
slightly different address will go to the list owner and a human has to
spend time forwarding some of them on to the list. This chap is really
trying to spread his message, he tried to post to both acg-l and acb-l
    and both bounced to me.

Calvin probably has decided they don't want to use less human resources
and not restrict who posts to ASA. On the other hand they have written
in some code that will not post from someone who obviously does not have
a correctly formulated from line. That eliminates a lot of SPAM
automatically. And I am not sure I would like Calvin to change to
restrict posts to those who sign up on ASA. then I would have to deal
with all messages from the group. Now I can look at the archives and
follow the messages I like and still post. Of course the down side of
that is the whole world can (if they care), read anything that is on our
    ASA web site.
