I have to admit that I laughed at this joke, but
perhaps not so much for the hook line as for the
thought of an atom entering a police station. I
understand that this was a conventional downtown
police station, and not a particle police station?
The joke reminded me of Gary Larson who must be an
obvious favorite cartoonist among you scientists (not
counting myself in), even more so among those of you
who take care in debating evolution, paleanthropology,
etc. He has some really good stripes about evolution
and related stuff.
Too bad he is not drawing anymore (somebody told me
that he wrote a book on ants after quitting cartoons),
I think the joke above could sell to him for a very
good price.
