Gordon Simons pointed this article out by Dr. Francis Collins:
>An article in today's web-version of the NY Time (appearing in the Health
>Section) http://www.nytimes.com/2001/01/19/health/reuters-genome.html
>quotes Dr. Francis Collins, the director of the federal government's Human
>Genome Project, as saying that "a number of big surprises will come out
>of genetics research in the coming weeks." One of the big surprises:
>
>``There is now clear evidence that (the junk genes) have been performing a
>number of functions for tens or hundreds of thousands of years.''
What I also noted in the article was this bit:
"But sounding a cautionary note, Collins also predicted that the huge reliance
on genetic technology in healthcare will re-activate 'the major
anti-technology
movements and anti-technology fervor' that currently dog public acceptance of
genetic advances."
And isn't this "anti-technology movement" kin to the anti-science movement
championed by CRS, ICR, and the likes of Phil Johnson, et al.
Which is all the more reason the ASA should put its resources and influence
into the project Jack Haas suggested.
