It is true that OECs wishing to argue against the YEC position often
assert that the YECs must propose a deceptive god.
But this is an OEC argument (against the YEC position) and is
not, AFAIK, ever proposed by any YEC.
The Gosse book, OMPHALOS, written in 1857, continues to
be, if not persuasive, at least a coherent explanation of
the YEC position. In it, this issue is discussed, with a
plausible explanation not involving deception.
