I'm not a glaciologist, so you would have to ask one for an expert's view,
but in Greenland and Antarctica you can drill through the ice and count
annual layers of ice from snow that fell going back about 100,000 years
or more, and I believe in the case of the Vostok station in Antarctica, you
can go back about 400,000 years. Going deeper the ice gets too
compressed for these layers to be identified.
We can be sure that the layers are seasonal, as the more recent ones
contain evidence from industrial pollution and volcanic eruptions that have
been documented in historical times. However, it's not just a matter of
identifying and counting layers, the isotopic compositions of the
atmospheric gases contained in them can be used to determine the past
climate. As I said, you would have to ask a glaciologist for the details,
but clearly there is no evidence of a global flood.
