Apropos the discussion on the lay education project & related
threads, there are 2 parts that are not being distinguished
sufficiently.
1) Trying to get convinced YECs to change their minds, or at
least recognize that there's is not the only legitimate Christian view.
2) Keeping people in this first group from promulgating their
views to young people & other unwary folks.
1 will be at best a low yield operation, for reasons that others
have pointed out. It seems to me that the best bet is to concentrate on
2. Nobody is going to go to Hell for thinking the earth is 6000 years
old so we can in good conscience give up on trying to actually convince
the YECs that they're wrong, & concentrate on trying to keep them from
propagating their errors.
