Inge - A very thorough commentary is that of Claus Westermann, an English translation
of which was published in three volumes by Augsburg in 1984 (or at least that's the date
for the first volume, _Genesis 1:1-11: A Commentary_. I don't have the data for the
German original at hand. A somewhat older and less detailed one is Gerhard von Rad,
_Genesis: A Commentary_ (Westminster, Philadelphia, 1972), a translation of the 9th
German edition.
These don't deal with issues of natural science, such as physical cosmology or
biological evolution in any detail. There may be commentaries which deal with those
matters in an adequate way, but I suspect that most which attempt to do so will be in
pursuit of some sort of concordist interpretation which is ultimately unhelpful.
