I think the "pushes back" argument is rooted in emotion and not reason.
The assumption behind this critique is that human brains have the
tools and ability to truthfully answer all questions about reality and thus
all
we need to do is find and apply the correct solutions. But I think this
is an emotive assumption that stems from our desire to control our
surroundings through understanding. The notion that something is beyond
our understanding is typically offensive for many Homo sapiens, thus we
attempt to create methodologies that supposedly steer clear of this offense.
Our mistake is in thinking our emotional wants are indeed logical guides.
