Another thing that prevents a literal interpretation. God created the
'firmament' to separate the waters above from the waters below - and
later created the Sun and Moon and set them *in* the firmament - i.e.
*below* the waters that were / are *above* the firmament. What are /
were these waters, which if we are to take the account literally, must
be / have been beyond the Sun???

Oh, dear, your Bible must be incomplete :-)
There is a verse, in Leviticus or Deuteronomy- I forget which and don't
have a Bible to hand at the moment - which says (NIV) "Do not mate different
kinds of animals." Not sure exactly what the purpopse is here, because
in the same context it also says do not plant your fields with two kinds
of crops, and also do not wear clothing made of two different materials.
