A few last words on this verse. While there has been some conention about
the meaning of the words ("hammerer" of "things" v. "instructor" of
"those", etc.), I think the context helps clear things up. The verses
preceding unambiguously state:

Gen. 4:20 And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents,
and of such as have cattle. 21 And his brothers name was Jubal: he was the
father of all such as handle the harp and organ.

No question that these verses are talking about the "fathers" of these
technologies. This is why there was no "dark age" after the Flood. The
Bible connects the names and technologies (tent making, musical
instruments, iron forging) with those who practiced these things after the
Flood.
