Pim: The alternative would be that people might lose faith totally ? A
white
lie in order to insure continuance of something the apostles believed in.
What was the alternative ? Admitting that Jesus was a lie ? What could
that have done to the religious beliefs of those told of the 'savior' ?

Jim: A white lie that led to certain scorn, torture and death? But oh,
save that
faith, even though it's false. That makes a LOT of sense.

Only if it were found out. If they were to stick together to their story
there was nothing to fear. The Christian faith need not be false just
because of an imposter but many might have lost faith after having
believed that this imposter was real or that this imposter showed that
their religion was without merrits.
If you are saying that the apostles were predetermined to a life of scorn,
torture and death you have to 1) show that this is indeed the case 2) that
their admission of being part of a lie would not have shortened their
future.
