I can't post the article because of the license aggreement with the NYTimes
but they have an article today on a new discovery of a modern looking bird
found in China which is of the same age as Archaeopteryx. Volcanic rocks
associated with the find are dated between 137-142 myr which would make it
nearly as old as archaeopteryx (145-150 myr). But at a recent vertebrate
paleoconference, these beds were reported to be 121 myr

It can be found at.

The bird was found in Liaoning Province, which is just north of where I was
when I was in China. Liaoning is the province next to North Korea. Judging
from the geologic maps the only creteaceous or Jurassic rocks are on the
northeast side of the Lioaning embayment of the Bo hai Bay.
