I want to thank everyone for the courteous tone of the discussions in this
thread. I became convinced that the geologists' estimates for the age of
the earth are sound about 5 years ago. I also came to realize that
evolution does not have to be seen as mutually exclusive with the
sovereignty of God. As a conservative Christian, my highest priority at
that time was to search for ways to understand Scripture that are
God-honoring, sound, and don't do violence to what we're fairly sure of
from observation. I've learned some valuable things about Scripture in the
process, which have strengthened my faith. And I'm glad to be able to have
an opportunity to discuss them.
