On the other hand for samples of undetermined eruptive strategies, this
should always be a consideration. The Columbia River flood basalts are a
fine example of basalts which probably were erupted at depth (pillowing
evident and interbedded marine microfossils) and the Grand canyon basalts we
have heard so much about are others (columnar features), although the depth
was probably not that great.
