Art as evidence of humanity

Glenn discussed this recently; I was reminded of it
when I read WHEN ELEPHANTS WEEP, a study of
the emotional lives of non-humans. Seems that "art" is to be found
among non-humans, as well as most (all) other "human" characteristics.
Perhaps even worship! Can a bear admire a sunset? Maybe. Can a chimp?
Maybe. Intesting book to read, anyway.

The juxtoposition of art & sex, as portrayed in the carved figures
of nude human females may be another level -- I don't know. But
"art" by itself is not a compelling argument (to me) for evidence of
"human-ness."
