The following was posted in another mailing list I'm on. It's relevant to
our current discussions, and I';m still chuckling over it:

Moses and Jesus were playing golf with a very old man. At the 16th hole
they had to hit the ball over a large lake. Moses teed his ball and hit
first. The ball headed straight for the lake, but as it came down Moses
raised his club in the air and the water parted. His ball rolled through
on dry land and came to rest on the green, about 10 feet from the pin.

Jesus hit next; his ball, too, sailed right toward the lake. When it hit
the top of the water, it just sort of skipped/walked across the water and
rolled up onto the green right next to Moses' ball.

The old man took his turn next. He sliced badly to the right into a
small grove of trees. The ball bounced off a tree and a squirrel caught
it in his teeth. As the squirrel tried to run away with it, an eagle
swooped down and snatched him up, ball and all. The eagle soared high
into the air, heading for his nest. Suddenly, a lightning bolt shot out
of a nearby cloud and struk the eagle. The eagle dropped the squirrel
and the squirrel dropped the ball. The ball fell to the ground on the
green and rolled into the cup for a hole in one.

Jesus turned to the old man, smiled and said, "Nice shot, Dad."
