Thanks for Mark's and others' recent postings suggesting ways of
cutting
down on Reflector traffic. May I suggest another improvement? It is
the
practice by some to send messages to the Reflector with a cc. to the
person directly concerned (or vice-versa).

Since the person concerned gets the message anyway from the Reflector,
this is a duplication and a waste of bandwidth. Also it saves time
because
many times I have answered the personal copy as a personal message and
then found the same message to the Reflector, necessitating a
different style of
reply.

I have started sending messages to the Reflector with the person's
name
in quotes before the Reflector address. I also add "evolution" in the
quotes
because some reflectorites mailers filter on that word. A message to
(say)
Glenn Morton per the Reflector also would be addresses as follows:

----------------------------------------
"Glenn Morton-Evolution" <evolution@calvin.edu>

Dear Glenn
----------------------------------------

For your consideration.

Regards.

Stephen
