The amount of description supplied about the rivers is apparently related
to how familiar Moses's readers would have been with the rivers. No one
needed to tell them where the Euphrates was. It was so well known that it
was referred to as the great river (Gen. 15:18) or simply the River
(Joshua 24:14,15).
