The question of Creation and science has been occupying my thought for a
while now and I thought I might contribute a brief quote from A.H. Strong's
volume on Systematic Theology. He references Augustine as saying: "First
God created a chaotic matter which was next to nothing. This chaotic matter
was made from nothing, before all days. Then this chaotic, amorphous matter
was subsequently arranged, in the succeeding six days." [Confessions, 12:8];
and from De Genes. ad Lit., 4:27 "The length of these days is not to be
determined by the length of our week-days. There is a series in both cases
and that is all."
I do not have access to either reference; if others do and can check
it, I would be most appreciative.
