What I see you doing, Will, is assuming that the above is all that can be
said
about God. If it is all that could be said, I would indeed agree with
you. I would see "no comfort." I would see "no use." I might still be a
Christian believer, of course, for if it is true, I want to believe it.
But
your terminology "no use" fits.
But God is a lot more than the above, as most Christians will articulate,
some better than others, to be sure. He is, first and foremost, a
PERSONAL
God.
Sometime, perhaps you'll read REASONS OF THE HEART, a recent book on
Pascal by O'Connell. A lot of unnecessary Catholic theology and politics
in it -- but a hard core also of how Blaise Pascal apprehended my God.
Pick up a copy sometime and just read the two pages 95-96. It ought to
help you understand us peculiar people better, if nothing else. I am
looking forward to talking with Blaise about it -- probably in not many
years now.
