You are absolutely correct. The english bible states unambiguously
"evening and morning" Thus if the rotation of the sun around the earth
were at some different rate than at present, the day length could in fact
vary. The use of the word day in this connection comes from Exodus 20,
where God wrote with his own hand "for in six days...".
