I am going to step way out of my field of expertise here. Concerning God
creating an infinite universe - My understanding is that what is at issue
is not the beginning of the universe in time, but its very existence.
Certainly there is a beginning to Earth history and to human history, and
that is the context of God's working in redemptive history. However, it is
hard for us living in the flow of time to conceptualize a God whose
existence is truly outside of time (not just before time). Why couldn't
God be the source of existence of an eternal universe? If we think of
space and time as a sphere that has no boundaries, God is the creator of
that sphere. I am not arguing that the universe is indeed eternal but just
indicating that such a position does not seem to me to necessarily deny a
creator God. My apologies if I have grossly mangled cosmological theory.
