Gordon,

That's actually worth highlighting. Even in the last round of New Atheism,
it was difficult to find any atheist who would actually... defend atheism.
And by that I mean, come out and admit they were making the positive claim
that no God/gods exist, that the universe was nothing but one big unintended
and mindless accident in all ways. This is avoided like the plague - because
having to defend that claim would not only be tremendously difficult (more
difficult than defending theism/deism), but it would be tremendously
uncomfortable. The fun of being a skeptic is being the one on the attack.
The types who enjoy that rarely enjoy being on the defense, particularly
about an issue so central for them.

What's more, God cannot help but hide, in my view. We will always be forced
to ask 'Is God really God? Can He be trusted? Is He just some powerful
malevolent spirit?' regardless of the situation. Faith is unavoidable for
any worldview.
