I should have stated in my previous post, that there is nothing problematic
with an ancestral species overlapping in time with a descendant species.
Evolution is not a single evolving line (usually called orthogenesis), but a
branching tree. Thus, after the splitting of a lineage, the two branches
can continue to persistent as reproductively isolated populations.
In the case of Humans, there are no current parallel lineages within our
branch of the tree. However, in the past this was not so, and there were at
times two or more coexistent hominid species.
