It seems to me that St Paul said something about that if there is no law there is no sin. Animals are unaware of the law and seem incapable of being aware of the law thus while they commit deeds that in a human or other sentient being would be sin, animals IMO do not sin. St Paul's comment used to puzzle me till I accepted common descent.Animals sin all the time (rape, murder, etc.).
Humans are, because the conscience gradually arose.
