I'm not sure about engaging Klinghofer but this does give me an idea for
this listserv. We are generally an unstructured list in the sense that we
simply address any question that someone might submit instead of a
prescribed set of issues. However, I wonder if there would be interest on
this list to have a structured discussion around Meyer's book "Signature in
the Cell". Now that I've read significant portions of it, this epic tome is
bound to be considered a manifesto for the science of ID. I am NOT
suggesting we either attack or defend the book but rather to have a
thoughtful discussion of the key issues presented. I think there are many
topics that Meyer raises that would be quite fruitful for discussion.
I would suggest that we start with the discussion of the Appendix that
Klinghofer mentions. Meyer offers a dozen ID predictions. We could discuss
each one sequentially as an individual thread, culminating in a concise
summary statement of the various opinions on this list (no chance for
unanimous consensus here!). The end result, if this works, might be a nice
set of reflective thoughts on these predictions. We might also continue and
discuss Meyer's 6 reasons why ID is science and his 3 reasons why ID is the
best explanation...
If you'd like to have this (other threads would not be precluded--they can
continue as always) type of discussion, I'd be willing to moderate this one
and kick it off after the ASA meeting. I'd start each thread with a summary
of that particular prediction. I would encourage you to get this book for
yourself, if you haven't already. It really is a comprehensive collection of
virtually all the ID ideas in the scientific domain.
Interested?
