Re: [asa] Moonwalk: Where was I?

The odd thing is that I don't know when I first found out about the
moonwalk.

Just now I had to look it up to know the date. It was, as all of you
apparently know, July 20, 1969.

I dropped out of college in 1967, my younger brother was killed in Vietnam
in 1968, I moved out to California the same year. From about 1967 through
my return to college, and graduate school I never owned a TV or radio.
So I entirely missed the late sixties, seventies, and a good part of the
eighties living at times with the poorest of the poor, or simply as an
over worked graduate student.

I think I knew we had landed on the moon, but never saw the video until
fairly recently. What I remember was Sputnik, the first space travel
(John Glenn) and the JFK assassination
just before I submerged below contact with the outside world.

I don't know how I would have reacted had I known at the time with the war
in Vietnam dominating everyone's concern. As I remember it now, I was
more interested in "dropping out." I mean really dropping out. I wanted
to go live in this place in Idaho where no humans have ever lived. I
guess I'm still interested in that.
