It's perhaps worth commenting further on Murray's statement that MacKay
"claimed to have coined the term." On p.43 he says "[T]he fallacy
underlying such arguments is sufficiently pernicious and widespread to
deserve an appropriately rude name, and some twenty-five years ago I
christened it 'nothing buttery.'" Since the original printing of the book
was in 1974, MacKay must have introduced the term around 1949. ("Around"
because of the qualification "some" 25 years ago.) So use by Lewis or
anytone else would have to be before that to have priority (assuming, of
course, that MacKay remembered correctly).
