[asa] CT book review

In the current issue (April 2009) of Christianity Today, Marcus Ross has a short review of Davis Young and Ralph Stearly's book "God, Rocks, and Time". Marcus made headlines a couple of years ago when as a YEC he received a PhD in paleontology from U of RI. He is now at Liberty University. His review supports some of the comments made on this list about YEC. He does not take issue with any of the book's scientific analysis. Rather, he criticizes it for two things. One is that it is a negative book, opposing a young age of the earth, without offering a comprehensive alternative interpretation of the Bible. Secondly, he underscores YEC as a big picture understanding covering death, sin, life and all aspects of Scripture whereas Young and Stearly have a measly one chapter analysis. This is precisely what several of you, notably Ted Davis, have stated, namely that the driving force behind YEC is theodicy and the understanding of the relationship between sin and death. The facts of the age of the earth pale in comparison.

This review is puzzlingly not in the online version of CT though 2 or 3 of the other reviews are.

I'd like to comment on many of the other topics being discussed but now I need to unsubscribe for a week or two while I go on a rare vacation without a computer!
