I am myself convinced that Galileo did use his experience as the son of a
lutenist and music theorist (you can look up Vincenzio Galilei in Grove's
Dictionary) in many of his experiments--those on balls rolling down
inclines, especially. James MacLachlan has written on this and has
reproduced many of Galileo's experiments.
