I remember sharing on this list some time ago that a intro psych student of
mine raised her hand and mentioned rib number when I asked for an example of
a sex difference. I recall someone posting on this list a story of a
student making the same claim, being challenged to count on two male and
female skeletons and being so convinced the numbers were different it took
several tries to get the counts right. Unfortunatley, it's not easy to
search the list archives.
I was definitely remember being taught that that men had different numbers
of ribs in my elementary school Bible class in the early 1970's. The local
SDA college supplied most of the public school Bible classes; perhaps that
was a common teaching in SDA churches?

I recall reading the story about the reduced number of ribs in men with
the name of the professor, which I cannot recall. This was years ago.
There was an added twist to the story because the professor's mother had
a supernumerary rib pair.
