Good point, for some kinds of human endeavors. That is, the more creative the kind of endeavor, the more blind alleys a person tends to go down. But for endeavors that don't involve much in the way of creative agonies but just hard work or administration--such as building a bridge--my statement applies.

Ultimately whether or not my statement applies to God depends on what kind of person God is. If God were like Albert Einstein working out the details of General Relativity, your criticism would be appropriate. Lots of agony and blind alleys there. However, I started out by assuming God was omnipotent, omniscient and goal-driven. Such a person--if mentally healthy--almost by definition should be able to reach his goal straightforwardly.

Like you I don't ordinarily think of God as omnipotent and omniscient; but unlike you I can't see him as "wallowing in failures and inefficiencies." Rather, I see processes of the biotic world as wallowing in failures and inefficiencies--and the outcome is all the more impressive and beautiful because of them.

Because I believe in a heaven, I must believe God has the power to create it. If he has the power to create heaven and take his people there--including those who have died, he must have had the power to create the biotic world on Earth in a much faster and more efficient way than he did. So I attribute to God at least that much knowledge and power, and that's a lot.

If he could have done it but didn't, why not? My experience tells me his primary motive in generating the biotic world has been to create a wife. Creating children has been secondary. A necessary requirement of a wife is that she come into existence independently of her husband. Since (I assume) there isn't another capable creator out there somewhere, the only way the wife could come on the scene independently of God is if the biotic world somehow came into existence on its own, as independently of God as possible.

This theological position accommodates all the facts and as a bonus effectively dispenses with any theodicy issues. Others claim that their schemes are also consistent with the facts, but this scheme requires the biotic world to evolve as though not controlled from the outside. So it's not just consistent with the facts but integrally meshes with them.

  I'm sorry, that is not consistent with human history. Failing is the
  very substrate of success because it leads to learning.

  One could also speculate that the greatest perfection is unbroken
  symmetry itself. But if unbroken symmetry was the case we would not
  have the universe at all! So broken symmetry is the cause of all we
  see around us. One can think of broken symmetry as a form of failure
  because it is not perfect. (If one is using perfection as the
  standard of success). So I'm afraid I see God as wallowing in
  failures and inefficiencies. I wonder is that perhaps a
  characteristic of creativity?
