All,

A news note - the physics and psychology buildings at Westmont
College, an evangelical school that hosted the ASA meeting some years
ago (and my alma mater), were destroyed in the Montecito fire (next
to Santa Barbara, California) that happened Thursday night. In
addition, they lost several small dormitory units and 14 faculty
homes near campus. No one on campus was hurt, but it was apparently a
terrifying few hours, as it was a very fast moving fire driven by 70
mph winds and it completely destroyed over 100 homes in Montecito,
many of them large mansions very near the Westmont campus. The winds
unexpectedly abated yesterday, allowing firefighters to get control
of the fire sooner than expected.

Thought some here might be interested in this.
