Re: [asa] Flat Earth in earlier Christendom

A handy example of explicity round earth views is Dante, who actually
gave some thought as to how astronomical phenomena would appear in the
southern hemisphere in the Divine Comedy.

Does anyone know what is current on flat earth views? I tried an
online search and found theflatearthsociety.org which claims that the
earth is a flat disc that is accelerating to produce the appearance of
gravity (contrary to the fixed earth view that would be expected from
extreme biblical literalistic views) and that its supporters are not
principally motivated by biblical considerations (supported by a link
to a poll, but nothing opens from the link). The site could be a
fairly elaborate hoax, in contrast to blatant hoaxes for some other
sites, but it does seem to take up some of the traditional (i.e., from
the mid-1800's work of Samuel Rowbotham) flat earth stuff.
