Ted,
I second that thanks from Mike – very interesting discussion that I can
guarantee I'd have missed if you didn't point it out. Whew, not sure how
much time I spent weeding through that extraordinarily long conversation (I
bet the comment thread is longer than some published books!) but the ones
you indicated (& your own of course) were well worth it.
I really do like your proposal to discuss a specifically theological work.
Note that, as David points out, there are some significant challenges in
doing this over the internet & it will take some planning (ie. its not a
show of hands & off we go type of activity). I'd try to get commitment from
3 or 4 people to be the "prime" participants – people who you believe
already have a pretty good handle on the issues (but not necessarily the
same perspective). Maybe have them take turns writing the original posts
(summaries of chapters?) and responses to these posts (from a different
perspective). After this is done, others in the group can comment. I think
this is important to ensure that the discussion gets off to a good start
each time.
Mike,
Not sure I'd agree that Timaeus got the upper hand, but hey, maybe that's
because I'm feeling more or less comfortable with my current citizenship
:-).
thanks,
