It hardly seems to be hurting for traffic so perhaps there is more to
this story than a superficial statement may suggest?

Sometimes people may be somewhat humor impaired I guess.
Opderdeck: Your complaint is only valid in a technical sense. Myers
knows he has a big following. So what kind of role model is he? Go
to YouTube and type in "eucharist desecration." You will see that the
#1 Science Blog has inspired copycats. I'll bet he's proud.
You mean that the article ignores that there was no video, that there
was a page of God Delusion in addition to the Koran and an alleged
consecrated eucharist? Me thinks that some are quick to ignore the
background and circumstance. What if it was just a cracker, was the
response and death threats worth it?
As to Myers being proud, I assume that you have talked to him
recently? Myers has a big following, for a variety of reasons,
including his fascinating science postings.
I personally do not care much for his philosophical positions but like
Dawkins, he is an excellent science educator with a sense of humor.
Nothing should be sacred. Sounds like "teach the controversy" doesn't it...
