What's a "species" in bacteria is highly problematic. There are
general guidelines that microbiologists use, but it's quite difficult
to draw a line, especially as bacteria seem to swap DNA around fairly
indiscriminately.

Yes, they already use that line all the time (except for the
micro-organism joke part).
