Thanks, Steve. This example provides a beautiful example of how God has equipped life to survive and prosper amid changing conditions. The e coli produce citrate as a waste product, citrate accumulates and eventually a mutation (or a set of mutations) occurs that enables some of the e coli to metabolize citrate. Evolution provides life with the adaptive capabilities needed to respond to changing environmental conditions.
