Harmful mutations result in low or nonexistent reproductive success and
therefore quickly disappear from the landscape. They may be more frequent or
not, it really doesn't matter. Natural selection acts at many levels, from
the embryo to the whole organism. The key is that mutations per se are
relatively rare leading to some degree of stability.
