Subject: Re: [asa] An evolution quiz question about "Scientific creationism "
Hi everyone, I just joined this list about a week ago and haven't introduced myself yet. I'm Melody McConnell, an ASA member. Currently I am a stay at home wife and mom with an 11-month old son but I used to be kind of a molecular biologist. I have a master's degree in genomics. I might not be saying much on this list because it seems like you all know a lot more than me, but I am enjoying reading some of the threads, and I might have something to add every now and then.
In regards to this topic, I just wanted to mention that in my undergraduate evolution class we learned the terms macroevolution and microevolution. According to my professor, microevolution was change at the species level and below and macroevolution was change above the level of species.
Which might be kind of an arbitrary division but yes, modern (I just took this class maybe four or five years ago) science students are being taught these terms.

I was also surprised, at first, to hear a modern science book speak of
micro/macro evolution. Then, it seems like I hear some other scientists
saying it, like the Gould quote. But then there's the wiki quote saying
it is unintelligible. It makes me wonder what the real modern science
stance is with these two terms, or if there is consensus.
