Collin, I further Stevešs suggestion to ŗpick up and read˛ on this subject.
Išll second his recommendation for Collins; Darryl Falkšs book Coming to
Peace With Science is also good.

Perhaps picking up a copy of an introductory biology textbook (for non
majors) and reading through it may be useful as well. Campellšs Biology:
Concepts and Connections isnšt bad.
