I came to a conclusion many years ago that the problem was not what
scripture said, but what people claimed it said. Only if I take what
people claim as evangelical do I have a problem. Later I encountered the
several Reformation confessions, which specify that scripture is the
truthful source for faith and morals, not for every other notion usually
swept into inerrancy. Then from the historical studies by Livingstone and
Roberts, for example, I learned that the current YEC approach is not the
traditional evangelical view. I have come to the conclusion that I stand
with the reformers, as their views have to be revised in the light of
discoveries since they lived. I no longer need to explain how
4,650,000,000 = 6000 or 27,000 < 150.

I respond: I'd like to think you're right Burgy. Maybe it depends on
what one means by "traditional." Certainly evolution challenges
traditional views of scripture and the fall, if nothing else.
