Although dated, the text "Evolution" by Dobzhansky, Ayala, Stebbins, and
Valentine (W.H. Freeman, 1977) is a classic.

Steven Stanley's book "Macroevolution: Pattern and Process" (W.H.
Freeman, 1979) is also an excellent summary of the important concepts
related to speciation and evolutionary patterns.

Lastly, "Principles of Paleontology, 3rd edition" by Michael Foot and
Arnold Miller (W.H. Freeman, 2007) is an update of the classic 1971
text by Raup and Stanley of the same title.

All three of the above texts were my introduction to evolution in
college, and they continue to provide a solid foundation for the
rapidly evolving science of evolution.
