Time and time again I hear the "we believe in AGW but we want to make sure
we do the economic correctly". But then every time I turn around I see such
economists falling back on denialism BS using techniques that would get you
flunked from Statistics 101. It really makes me question such an economist
that promotes this, even one who graduates magna cum laude from Harvard and
has a PhD from the University of Chicago.
Let's assume that the economists promoting the "market" lack of ability in
science does not extend to the area of their expertise -- even though again
they should be experts at analyzing time series of data. Even assuming that
the market is the only way to solve this problem by consistently
underestimating the problem and encouraging evangelicals to do the same
makes the "market" undervalue removing carbon beyond what it already does.
This is particularly the case given that evangelicals have proven that they
will not act purely in their own self-interest. Such economists should be
the loudest ones proclaiming AGW and attempting to get people-in-general and
Christians-in-particular to decrease carbon output voluntarily. That's
because they know if that does not succeed draconian and ineffective
government programs will undoubtedly follow at the expense of individual
liberty that the such economists prize so greatly.
