1. Holding that much (most?) of Revelation is not to be read literally does
not necessarily entail your first question.
On your second question -- "dire?" You seem to hold that God is a God of
wrath, who will "ding you" if you misunderstand something.
I hold that God is a God of grace. If I am wrong on something, that is not a
fatal error.
