I think Davies is more pantheist than deist:? that is, he is?a monist rather than a monotheist; he does not?think "God" (or "god") is separate in essence from the universe itself.? This would be along the same lines?as?the pantheistic?god?in Hinduism.
I think Einstein was probably in the same camp.
What distinguishes Einstein's and Davies' views?from materialistic atheism is that they both believe(d) there is some kind of infinite mind behind everything.? Mind is not merely an emergent phenomenon from mindless matter.? But what distinguishes their view?from monotheism is that this infinite mind is inseparable from the universe; that the mind did not, as an unconstrained choice, create the universe to be an entity separate?from itself.

Subject: [asa] Origin's debate: <need help> the positions and their champions
I'm preparing a class (proposal) on the origins debate for my church.
?
I plan on saying there are currently 5 positions, with champions:
?
OEC: Old Earth Creationism, Ken Ham
YEC: Young Earth Creationism, Hugh Ross
TE: Theistic Evolution, Francis Collins
DE: Deistic Evolution, <champion?>
AE: Atheistic Evolution, Richard Dawkins
?
I don't have a champion for DE.? Does anyone know one? I haven't studied that part yet.? I'm open to suggestions.
?
...Bernie
