I did a disservice by posting the excerpt you are rightly reacting to. The
essayist (Denis) was not advocating this argument, but stating it such as it is
in popular polemic. His main implication (you will have to read the rest of the
essay to appreciate this) was that even *IF* it was demonstrated that N.T. era
apostles read the O.T. literally in what we would now call a
historical-scientific sense, this would still not carry the argument to a
conclusion that we should as well. It was accommodation all the way... (and
still is -- we just have trouble accepting it.) It was this latter argument he
spent time on that I found fascinating and warranting discussion.
