The protective expulsion from Eden to keep Adam and Eve away from the
tree of life, so as not to live forever [in a sinful state? generally
inferred conclusion to the incomplete sentence], might suggest that
before the Fall they were in a state that would not be eternal until
they ate from the tree of life.
