Re: [asa] Homeschooling and Creation Science

Here's some info on being on the inside of the creation
science/homeschooling thing. I have been homeschooled since fourth grade,
and we have used all Bob Jones University Press curiculum. The BJU texts
are indeed of very high quality. I had their older edition of Biology, but
the Physics and Chemistry books were beautifully done. As you may have
imagined, the Biology textbook was ever so slightly open to the day-age and
gap theories, but overall it was YE and anti-evolutionary. TE was
rejected. My church is also YEC.

Basically I came to accept evolution by having an open mind to all the
evidence, biblical and scientific. I think the idea of a OEC/TE high school
textbook series would be an excellent idea, although certainly a mammoth
task. Anyway the homeschool movement truly is very YEC controlled,
unfortunately. On the other hand, perhaps it is easier for a homeschooler
like me to reject YEC than, perhaps, a high schooler attending a private
school and using the same curriculum. There is little wasted time in
homeschooling (when it is well-structured) which allowed me plenty of time
to pursue my extracurricular interests, such as chess, classical music,
programming, herpetology, and, yes, evolution. If there was a Christian
curriculum that was scientifically solid and biblically based, the
homeschool movement would be cranking out some pretty solid scientists!

So anyway, it's pretty interesting being a TE in a YEC world...This is my
"inside view" on the topic. :-)

If there are any questions on this topic, feel free to ask me!
