I have been having an off line conversation with one of the
participants on the UcD blog. One thing that struck me was how badly
statistics was being abused. Every graduate level degree I'm aware of
including my wife's Master of Music Education requires a course in
statistics. She confused the morning sickness from our first child
with the class, though! :-)
One of the big reason why lay people are so quickly dismissed by
secular scientists is they barge in and critique the work. This is
fine in and of it self. But, then they go and clearly show that they
don't understand key concepts such as statistical significance which
is critical in just about any research -- and is why most graduate
programs require a course in it. This also gets at the core of what
is wrong with most adult education programs, particularly in the
church setting. We are told what to think but not how to think.
